This morning I pulled a card for my personal growth community, Own Your Vibe.
“In the midst of a meltdown, I breathe through the discomfort and come out the other side.” (from Gabby Bernstein’s Miracles Now deck)
What’s going on in your life that you’re trying to control? What’s going on that is causing you anxiety and overwhelm? Let it go. Allow yourself to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. True growth happens in times of true discomfort.
“Sure, Anne. My life feels fucking chaotic and you want me to just trust and let it go?” Yeah. I do.
Life is about doing the shit that scares you. We know what we need to do. Our soul tells us (you know that feeling in your gut? Yeah, that’s the feeling). Our ego (mind) is what talks us out of it. Our ego keeps us in our small, safe box. But safety? Security? It’s all an illusion.
That job? An illusion.
The money? An illusion.
That relationship? An illusion.
None of it matters. Security comes from within. Security comes from your connection to yourself and to God/Spirit/Source/Universe/Love.
The story I held onto for a LONG time is “I hate change”. I mean, I do. My human self is like, “OMG, give me routine, structure, boundaries, expectations I can count on.” But my soul? Oh lord. My soul is all like, “Fuck it allllllll!!!! Let’s change everything as drastically as possible. Flunked out of Iowa? Move to Florida. Done with Florida? Move to Houston and worry about a job later. I hate Houston, move to Chicago!! Married the wrong guy? Yeah, get the hell out of that one. Oh yeah? You already quit your job to run your business and not making a full-time income? Do it anyway! It’ll be totally fine. Heartbroken after your last relationship? Sweet, I’ve got a good one for you…. Get rid of all your shit and travel with your cats.”
I mean…when you put it that way…I can kinda see why my parents freak out every time I have a “fun new idea”. But here’s the thing, shit has ALWAYS worked out for me! And let me tell you, my life is VERY different than it would have been had I chosen to stay in Iowa City and go to the community college there after I flunked out my first year of college.
Am I telling you to stand up right now and say, “Eff this, job I hate, I quit!” No. Am I telling you to walk out on your relationship today? No. I’m asking you to listen to your heart, to your soul. I’m asking you to be open to knowing there is much more to your life than what you currently see in this moment. I’m asking that you not allow fear to hold you back anymore. I’m asking you to ask yourself, “What if?”
What if you followed that little voice instead of listening to the screaming ego that tells you that dream you have is crazy?
It’s not crazy. Your desires are YOURS and they are never crazy.
Others won’t understand why you need to do what you need to do…and they don’t need to understand. Others will try to help you find the “logical” route. Don’t listen.
You’re never stuck.
There’s always another way.
Life is a game, play it. Enjoy it. Love it.
The challenges are there to help you grow. They’re not a punishment.
When you take big risks and big leaps, the Universe will test you to make sure you really want it. The Universe will give you assignments to help you BECOME the person who is capable of handling the dream your soul so badly wants. Are you going to take that next step or are you going to give up and say, “I guess it wasn’t meant to be.”
Breathe through the discomfort.
Center yourself through the chaos.
Know that this too shall pass.
Take one next step when you can’t see the entire path.
Find support in your life from others who are on a similar journey or have done something just as scary.
You’ve got this!
