Honoring the whisper

For the majority of my life, I was a people pleaser who relied on the love, acceptance, and validation of others. It wasn’t until a divorce and another “failed” relationship later when I finally allowed myself to get quiet enough to hear the subtle whisper.

Your time in Chicago is done. Sell all your shit and hit the road.

Against all logic, I sold nearly everything in my two-bedroom apartment and learned how to live my life, listening to that whisper. It took me across the country multiple times and nudged me to make radical changes in my business.

When things felt joyful and in the moments life felt impossible, I continued to rely on a very specific self-care routine to help me drown out the noise and opinions of others in order to hear the next step my soul was guiding me to take.

The very beginning of this routine started for me in 2014 and began to evolve more in 2016 and beyond. I’ve been using it ever since and have implemented it with every client of mine who has then felt massive energetic shifts in their own life.

I learned that I needed 3 major components in my routine in order to be able to tap into what my soul was calling me to do in any moment.

  1. Body
  2. Mind
  3. Soul
  1. Body- Every morning, I move my body in some capacity. I’m an Aries, so I have a lot of energy moving through me at any moment. I thrive through working out and although I put it under the body component, I have learned how to strengthen my mindset through completing a workout program from start to finish, training for a marathon, and continuously challenging my body to go to the next level.

In addition to physical movement, I drink lots of water, rarely (if ever) drink alcohol, and now follow a vegan lifestyle. However you choose to nourish your body is completely up to you, but what truly matters is that you are feeding your body the highest quality, nutrient dense foods. It all matters when it comes to your creativity and becoming a clear channel for what is meant to come through you.

  1. Mind- Meditation, meditation, meditation. I don’t believe the length of time matters, but I do believe that the quality of your meditation does. You may find yourself needing more or less, depending on what’s going on in your life. Some days I need a quick 5-10 minute meditation just to ground myself into what I’m desiring to create that day and other days, I need more guidance from Spirit or need more time to shift into a calm, grounded, peaceful vibe and I need 30, 45, or even 60 minutes. Some mornings I just simply need more time to allow myself to be. Listen to yourself and what you’re needing. I also spend time in the evenings, meditating and in silence. It helps me realign before crawling into bed for the night.

I also make sure that the majority of what I’m feeding my mind is positive, inspiring, uplifting content. I go through stages and phases where I read more, listen to more podcasts, listen to more teachers and other moments where I need to drown out the content of others and listen to what messages are trying to come through me. The power of this routine is cultivating a relationship with your higher self and learning what you need as a specific individual.

  1. Soul- Create a soul list. Make a list of 10 things you enjoy doing that don’t require money or other people. Make sure you’re doing at least one of those things each and every day. When you’re first starting out, this may feel really difficult. We’ve been conditioned over time to follow what we’ve been told we “should” do versus tapping into what lights us up. It could be as simple as cooking, knitting, going for a walk, coloring, dancing, etc. If you’re feeling stuck, think back to the things you enjoyed doing as a little kid. Your inner child has great clues for you as to things you loved to do and dreams you had that you simply forgot about!

This is the foundation of my routine. This is where I start each and every day. Although you may experience some resistance when you’re first getting started (as is common with starting any new habit), I know that it will be only a matter of time before you start craving it!
